Director – Expense Management

Description:

Manage the day-to-day operations of the Expense Management group. Responsibilities include, streamlining department, expense reporting and analysis, oversight of the expense allocation system, establishing appropriate controls, assuring financial close runs smoothly for the expense group and managerial duties. This role will work closely with other areas within Corporate Finance (e.g. Stat and GAAP reporting, Investment Accounting, Accounts Payable, Treasury, Actuarial Accounting), as well as areas throughout the company as it relates to expenses.


Responsibilities:

  1. • Highly involved in planning and developing the budgeting and expense management program to control and analyze corporate expenses.
  2. • Highly involved in the fiscal planning process and responsible for consolidation and preparation of expense budgets for the annual plan and eight-quarter reforecast.
  3. • Prepare management reports summarizing company performance to plan including expense analysis. Reports include, but are not limited to: Budget variance analysis; Monthly Statutory and GAAP Management Reports and Supplemental Exhibits; Annual Audited Statutory Financial Statements of Life Companies; Annual or Interim Audited GAAP Financial Statements; Statutory filings with regulators; Inter-company comparisons and analysis
  4. • Monitor expense controls. Identify and recommend opportunity for expense reductions. Make recommendations to the budgeting policies and procedures.
  5. • Coaches, develops, and motivates direct reports. Evaluates performance and provides feedback for growth improvements. Defines individual objectives and development plans, and ensures alignment with business unit, departmental and corporate goals.

Requirements:

  1. • Seven plus years of accounting/finance experience with at least 5 years in expense accounting, budgeting, allocations, financial reporting and/or planning; or CPA, MBA or equivalent
  2. • Proven ability to work with limited direction and prepare & present complex accounting issues to senior management
  3. • Ability to effectively work in a team environment with strong communication and relationship building skills
  4. • Strong analytical and computer skills (e.g. Excel, Word, MS Access) and ability to work effectively with common mainframe applications

Salary:

$100,000 - $110,000 + Bonus
