Vice President – Investment Accounting

Description:

A member of the Finance senior leadership team. Responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the financial operations and all accounting and reporting activities of a $15 billion investment portfolio. Will drive process improvements, enhance the control environment, and enforce the appropriate level of financial discipline within the investment accounting department. Will work closely with the Corporate CFO, the Chief Investment Officer, finance and accounting departments, and portfolio management providing metrics helpful in managing the credit quality and duration of the investment portfolio to support the business.


Responsibilities:

  1. Effectively manage and develop a staff of highly motivated and competent professionals; drive results and ensure that accountability for those results reside with each member of the team
  2. Act as primary liaison with other parts of the organization including finance, accounting, and portfolio management
  3. Act as the primary investment accounting interface for external auditors
  4. Ensure proper accounting and reporting under multiple bases of accounting including GAAP, statutory, and tax
  5. Provide technical investment accounting guidance for multiple investment types including limited partnerships, private placements, structured securities, corporate bonds, and derivatives
  6. Oversee a timely quarterly and annual close process for multiple SEC filings
  7. Oversee a timely close process for all other regulatory filings including various GAAP and statutory reports
  8. Maintain overall responsibility for all investment-related disclosures supporting all public and other filings
  9. Oversee internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for the department
  10. Implement and maintain a sound control environment while enforcing the appropriate level of financial discipline within the staff and other departments
  11. Partner with Corporate Portfolio Management in analyzing and understanding the key business and economic drivers of investment results to be reported to Senior Management, Investor Relations and independent auditors

Requirements:

  1. CPA or MBA with 10 to 15 years of related experience
  2. Public accounting and reporting experience or significant life insurance experience required (Big-4 firm experience a plus)
  3. Investment accounting and reporting experience in a technical or management role required
  4. Demonstrated technical investment accounting expertise
  5. In-depth understanding of STAT and GAAP accounting requirements and internal/external financial reporting
  6. Superior leadership and managerial skills with the ability to create a vision for managed staff and matrix partners, identify critical path items and drive the team to meet deliverables
  7. Strong communication skills; ability to effectively articulate the appropriate message at various levels and tailor it to suit the audience
  8. Ability to manage multiple high visibility, time sensitive projects at once

Salary:

High $100's + 25% Target Bonus
