Assistant Director – SEC Reporting

Description:

This role is within the Corporate Controller’s Accounting Policy & External GAAP Reporting (EGR) team, primarily supporting the external GAAP reporting work. The EGR team is responsible for the Company's SEC reporting, including the filing of quarterly Form 10-Q’s and Annual 10-K’s, Investor Financial Supplement, and reports related to other governmental surveys. The EGR team has the opportunity to learn a broad spectrum of the Company’s insurance operations by partnering with various business partners throughout the Company, including divisional CFOs. The Assistant Director position provides a macro overview of the Company’s insurance operations and corporate business functions and is highly visible throughout the Company as a result of regular interactions with line of business and corporate teams throughout the enterprise. The EGR team uses WDesk, a best-in-class, cloud-based productivity application, to carry out its SEC and management reporting responsibilities. EGR team members are continuously challenged to identify process improvements and empowered to implement solutions.


Responsibilities:

  1. • Manage relationships with line of business and corporate teams in order to effectively collaborate in the preparation of assigned sections of the Company’s Form 10-K (annual), Form 10-Q (quarterly) and Investor Financial Supplement (quarterly) SEC filings for two registrants
  2. • Manage the timely and accurate completion of assigned sections of the documents, including providing guidance to EGR staff assigned to these sections
  3. • Manage the preparation and review of electronic workpapers that support assigned sections of the documents
  4. • Coordinate with Lines of business to update financial disclosures required by changes in business or accounting guidance changes
  5. • Manage the timely and accurate completion of XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) compliance for assigned sections of the documents
  6. • Assist internal and external auditors as required
  7. • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives
  8. • Provide coaching and mentoring to EGR staff
  9. • Support the Investor Relations team with comprehensive review of quarterly earnings call documents and other periodic investor presentations
  10. • Managing the preparation and filing of annual and quarterly third-party financial information surveys from organizations such as SNL Financial, U.S. Census Bureau, and Bureau of Economic Analysis, as well as other periodic filings

Requirements:

  1. • Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Accounting
  2. • Minimum 4 years accounting experience, preferably in a Big 4 firm
  3. • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting. Previous experience with SEC reporting and regulatory filings is preferred
  4. • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  5. • Well-developed communication, organizational and analytical skills
  6. • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and to demonstrate professionalism while interacting with personnel at various levels through-out the enterprise
  7. • Experience with Microsoft Office required; experience with SharePoint, CognosTM1, WDesk and/or XBRL a plus

Salary:

$100,000 - $120,000 + Bonus
