Assistant Director – State & Local Tax

Description:

Reporting to the AVP of State & Local Tax, who in turn, reports to the VP, Director of Tax, will be primarily responsible for coordinating and monitoring the Company’s significant state tax compliance and financial reporting. State tax compliance consists of premium tax, income tax, municipal tax, property tax, sales and use tax, state funds, surcharges, and guaranty funds. Financial reporting consists of internal and external financial reporting associated with state and local tax.


Responsibilities:

  1. o Ensure accuracy of and compliance with tax calendar and SOX requirements.
  2. o Responsible for the timely and accurate tax filings prepared by the staff throughout the year in accordance with state and local laws and regulations.
  3. o Manage the distribution of state tax compliance and projects to the staff to meet internal and external deadlines.
  4. o Responsible for the review of internal and external financial reporting associated with state and local tax.
  5. o Serve as first “resource” to the state tax unit for both technical and procedural issues arising from state and local tax filings and associated compliance.
  6. o Manage state and local tax audits.
  7. o Assist with state planning initiatives.
  8. o Utilize technical knowledge in working on special projects.

Requirements:

  1. • Undergraduate degree in Accounting/Finance
  2. • 4+ years state tax experience (preferably in an insurance environment)
  3. • CPA or MST highly desirable
  4. • Previous management experience highly desirable
  5. • Strong knowledge of state taxes
  6. • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  7. • Ability to proactively address issues and recommend effective solutions

Salary:

$95,000 - $120,000 + Bonus
