Assistant Vice President, Accounting Operations

Our financial services industry client is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Accounting Operations to join their team. The ideal candidate will have significant managerial and general ledger experience in the asset management or financial services industry including a detailed understanding of mutual fund revenues streams, compensation programs, operating expenses and corporate treasury activities. In addition, the right candidate will have experience with respect to major accounting system projects process improvements including general ledger implementations and upgrading other key sub-ledger systems in the areas of billing and expense management. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance, this leadership role will have management responsibility for a team of experienced accounting professionals to complete a broad set of responsibilities.


Responsibilities:

  1. • Responsible for all aspects of the monthly closing process, including coordination with non-Hartford based finance teams, and ensuring adherence to Sarbanes Oxley 404 internal control processes
  2. • Direct management, oversight and development of professional accounting staff, with other indirect reports
  3. • Lead or support special projects to improve reporting systems related to the Company’s general ledger, account payable activities, client billing and expense management
  4. • Monitor and enhance the internal control environment for effectiveness and efficiency in accordance with COSO framework and Sarbanes Oxley requirements
  5. • Review and approve monthly general ledger account reconciliations
  6. • Coordinate and support information requests from independent Big Four public accounting firm in connection with year-end audits and SAS 100 quarterly reviews
  7. • Promote the development and counseling of direct and indirect reports through formal and informal feedback and training
  8. • Work collaboratively with Vice President, Technical Controller on special transactions ranging from the implementation of new accounting pronouncements, revenue recognition, equity accounting, new product launches and income tax matters
  9. • Assist in the preparation of SEC and other external reporting requirements
  10. • Manages direct and indirect reports
  11. • Ability to include staff in planning, decision making, facilitating and process improvement; available to staff; provides regular performance feedback; develops subordinates’ skills and encourages growth
  12. • Ability to delegate work assignments, and set and monitor expectations
  13. • Manage and oversee projects, determine actions plans and lay out and monitor timing and completion of the action plan
  14. • Solve problems independently and lead staff in the resolution of problems and issues

Requirements:

  1. • BS in Accounting and CPA required
  2. • Required work experience to include: 12+ years of corporate accounting / financial operations experience, ideally with an asset management or firm or financial services company; experience in a publicly-traded company a plus
  3. • Experience upgrading key accounting systems and processes
  4. • Ability to include staff in planning, decision making, facilitating and process improvement; available to staff; provides regular performance feedback; develops subordinates’ skills and encourages growth
  5. • Manage and oversee projects, determine actions plans and lay out and monitor timing and completion of the action plan
  6. • Solve problems independently and lead staff in the resolution of problems and issues

Salary:

$150,000 - $170,000 + 25-35% Bonus
