Assistant Controller – Insurance Co.

Description:

The Assistant Controller supports the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), supervising the daily activities of the Corporate Accounting Department. The Assistant Controller reports directly to the CAO and is responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of financial results, monthly, quarterly and annual close activities and reporting. In addition, the Assistant Controller assists the CAO with financial analysis, planning and forecasting, capital management and support with business transactions. The Assistant Controller will also be responsible for leading an accounting staff, providing leadership and accountability for accounting and financial reporting. This position will take a pivotal leadership role in each of the areas of responsibility through strong partnership with the CAO, CFO, and parent company finance teams and subsidiaries and will be relied upon to provide financial insights from a corporate perspective to help drive strategic decisions.


Responsibilities:

  1. Responsibility to oversee the preparation of financial reports for Month-End, Quarterly and Year-End Close on a timely basis
  2. Accountable for the Close process and addressing GAAP/IFRS and Statutory financial reporting requirements
  3. Consolidation of financial statements
  4. Montly expense close, accruals and intercompany accounting. Train the Accounting Department and other staff on raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters and statutory regulations including but not limited to IFRS/GAAP
  5. Prevent inaccuracies in financial statements by maintaining and updating internal control systems and adopting proper policies for financial reporting
  6. Partner cross-functionally to understand business transactions and ensure that transactional activity is complete and accurate. Escalate risks and proactively resolve issues
  7. Mentors and develops team members to ensure strong technical competencies for each team member
  8. Assist in special projects

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
  2. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, 5+ years in the insurance industry preferred
  3. Strong knowledge of US GAAP, Statutory Accounting and ideally IFRS
  4. Proven management and leadership skills

Salary:

$160,000 - $190,000 + 25% Target Bonus
