Assistant Director or Director – State and Local Taxes

Description:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of the Tax dept, who in turn, reports to the Vice Preseident, Director of Tax, this individual will be primarily responsible for coordinating and monitoring the Company’s significant state tax compliance and financial reporting. State tax compliance consists of premium tax, income tax, municipal tax, property tax, sales and use tax, state funds, surcharges, and guaranty funds. Financial reporting consists of internal and external financial reporting associated with state and local tax.

Responsibilities:

1. Manage All State Tax Compliance
2. Ensure accuracy of and compliance with tax calendar and SOX requirements
3. Responsible for the timely and accurate tax filings prepared by the staff throughout the year in accordance with state and local laws and regulations
4. Manage the distribution of state tax compliance and projects to the staff to meet internal and external deadlines
5. Serve as first “resource” to the state tax unit for both technical and procedural issues arising from state and local tax filings and associated compliance
6. Manage state and local tax audits
7. Assist with state planning initiatives
8. Utilize technical knowledge in working on special projects

Requirements:

1. 7+ years state tax experience (preferably with exposure to the insurance industry), CPA or MST highly desirable
2. Previous management experience highly desirable
3. Strong knowledge of state taxes
4. Strong PC skills, including tax compliance and research software
5. Strong time and project management skills
6. Excellent oral and written communication skills, Ability to see the “big picture"

Salary:

$110,000 - $160,000 + Annual Bonus - Relocation Assistance Available
