Vice President – Accounting Policy

Description:

We are recruiting for a newly created high level role, Vice President - Accounting Policy, for our growing financial services client. In the position, you will report to the CFO and will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating all new and proposed FASB and other accounting pronouncements and corporate governance laws, developing and documenting internal control and accounting policies and procedures to conform to new accounting pronouncements and laws. Provides technical guidance in the development of new products and complex business transactions including reinsurance, mergers and acquisitions.

The ideal candidate will be a CPA with 10+ years of Big 4 experience. Additional accounting policy experience in private industry, in particular with insurance/reinsurance a plus.


Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with finance partners and other internal clients to understand the business and provide ongoing guidance on new business initiatives
  2. Monitor, evaluate and communicate the effects of pending and newly issued pronouncements, rulings, and accounting standard changes
  3. Establish and maintain a process to update the organization of upcoming and recent accounting policies
  4. Spearhead the implementation of new accounting standards and development of relevant accounting policies
  5. Draft new notes for significant transactions and review accounting treatment, as needed, for appropriate application of US GAAP and statutory accounting
  6. Research and analyze proposed and/or completed transactions, and author technical accounting memorandums documenting those transactions
  7. Research questions from rating agencies, prepare and recommend response to Rating Agency Relations
  8. Work with external auditors as necessary to resolve questions and comments on technical accounting issues and proposed disclosures on technical matters

Requirements:

  1. CPA with 10+ years of Big 4 or a mix of public/private experience
  2. Strong understanding of insurance and financial services business and accounting implications
  3. Ability to read, integrate and summarize technical accounting standards
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills
